Have a Safe & Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Fitzgerald Esplin Advertising wishes everyone a wonderful Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end to summer.
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. On that Tuesday, 10,000 citizens marched for labor rights down the streets of Manhattan. The average American worked 12 hours a day, six days a week during that time. The Adamson Act passed on September 3, 1916, established the modern eight-hour workday.
By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday.
May you and your families have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day Weekend!
